How it's helped:
My Health and My New Journey
Everyone knows I’ve had fibromyalgia/myofascial pain for over 21 years and they have their own challenges in itself. Suddenly, 7 years ago, I had to stop working due to back pain, nerve pain, muscle pain, etc. It was so severe that I couldn’t sit easily for more than a few minutes without being in a lot of pain. Standing wasn’t an option either as it was painful as well. Since 2012, I have gone through numerous testing, therapies, medications, alternative therapies, more supplements, diet change, etc, etc etc. Nothing was truly making much of a difference. I wasn’t getting better.
During the summer of 2017 as we learned about medical marijuana dispensaries opening soon in Maryland, my husband and doctors encouraged me to try it for my pain. I was skeptical at first because I didn’t want to smoke. I found out they have tablets, tinctures, lotions, etc. So, I took the plunge and got my Maryland Medical Marijuana card in September 2017. I am not a drinker, nor have I ever used drugs. The government always told us marijuana was bad, but it is actually a very healing and beneficial plant.
I know some of you may be against marijuana usage for medical purposes. I am not here to change your mind, but to give you some insight to it and the good it can do.
On December 8, 2017 when Southern Maryland Relief Dispensary opened in Mechanicsville, we went to the dispensary and picked up several things for me to try. I started out with CBD Oil (I had taken prior, but this one had CBD and a little THC), tinctures, dissolvable tablets, elixirs, and lotions. Within a month, we noticed I was sleeping better, brain fog was starting to lift a little because I wasn’t having as much trouble finding my words, and John noticed I started cracking jokes here and there! I was excited because I was returning to the person I used to be and was seeing improvements!!! So I kept trying all the different things I had. Really needed something for the pain - that was key, but sleeping better and brain function was amazing!!!
Over the summer of 2018, I found my pain was less, my brain was functioning better, I was sleeping much better (even staying in bed for about 6 hours and not wandering around from insomnia/pain) and I was starting to feel better. Plus I stopped walking with a limp and my range of motion was much better!!! In July 2018 I talked to my doctor about starting to wean off Lyrica (nerve med) and tramadol (opioid for back pain). I can tell you as I wean down on each of these meds, that I would not be able to get through the withdrawals without medical marijuana. It has helped when nothing else would, although these withdrawals are just horrible in itself as you can imagine.
This is the part that is very exciting that I have been waiting to announce – are you listening?!?!? - - Since starting medical marijuana, I have been able to STOP TAKING 4 (f-o-u-r) of my medications!!!!!
Xanex (anxiety – took for 21 years)
Flexeril(muscle relaxer – took for 21 years)
Naproxen (inflammation – took for 7 years)
Dilaudid (opiod – took for 6 years). I can tell you that coming off Dilaudid was a cake walk compared to Lyrica though, all thanks to medical marijuana.
It is AMAZING the healing properties of this plant! I am amazed at not only my own results, but also others in the community that are healing with medical marijuana. My overall daily pain has reduced, my quality of life is better, I am engaging in brain activities like learning new things (which has been a struggle with the brain fog over the years, but the fog has lifted!!!)
I am going to continue the tapering of Lyrica (18 years) and Tramadol (21 years) to finally get off these meds that I have been on almost half my life! I’m taking back my life now and healing with plants…..medical marijuana is amazingly healing in soooo many ways!
